Pascoe House Museum

Collections require space! Fortunately, the Township was able to provide RAHS with an old Pascoe house that had once been located just off old M95 and moved to its present location on Cedar Street in South Republic. Aided by a grant from Cleveland Cliffs, Inc., The house was renovated and opened August 24, 2002.

The Peter Pascoe we know as Republic’s founder and first mine captain, who later became State Senator, emigrated to the eastern US, at age 23 from Cornwall, England. Already prepared for leadership roles in mining, he came first to the Copper Country and Humboldt, then to Republic at age 39. After 21 years as mine captain here, he was succeeded by Peter W. Pascoe (thought to be his nephew). Peter W. and his family lived in what is now called the Beulah House. His son, Peter W Jr. (Beulah’s sister) and his family lived in what is now the Museum.

Through the years, the Society has presented many kinds of programs and events – ethnic and Christmas specials, themed displays, sales, raffles, socials, and speakers. It has also published a quarterly newsletter, photo booklets, calendars, and books on local subjects and specific locations. These endeavors have stemmed from the desire to increase knowledge and appreciation of our fascinating culturally diverse history as a mining town.
